Celebrating the Roots of Cloth Atelier with Handmade Natural Cloth

Cloth Atelier is a passion; a love, a joy, a life well lived. I hold dear our deep held belief that natural fibre cloth, passing through human hands, celebrates the fragility of what is to be human in all of its glorious messiness. Bringing a depth and feel to the daily ritual we wrap around our bodies and homes, decorating with dignity and care not only for ourselves but with respect to our environment, now and in the future. Consuming with awareness, that our choices have on a world that we are all connected to and depend upon. 

Cloth Atelier chooses to celebrate that connection through the simple, understated, overlooked, importance of something so simple as cloth. Providing warmth in winter, coolness in summer, and joy in how we feel about ourselves… just look around anywhere, any time and there it is... cloth. So common, so every day that we stop seeing it for not only what it gives us, but the incredible ancient technology of the warp & weft and a simple thread. Just for a moment take a deep breath and admire the 30,000 years old knowledge that still keeps us warm & healthy today. Every moment of our life depends on the warp & weft, to soften our experience of how we live. 

Hand spinning, the creation of a thread, is the root of Cloth Atelier… it is how it all started. A combination of lush fibres, a gentle meditative rhythm, the uneven textured yarns, a creative process that is all about the process rather than the end product. A simple pleasure in making by hand that has taken me all over the world and eventually bringing Cloth Atelier into fruition. A simple, humble thread…

I have recently returned to my wheel, taking refuge from the demands of running a business, reminding myself, and aligning my spiritual needs through my hands to what is important in a life well lived. It is actually incredibly simple; through all the chaos, the fear, the struggles, the relentless human condition we have to navigate daily, it is here in the present moment of love and joy, connecting our hands with materials grown from the soil, enriching our creativity, building intuition and resilience. Trusting in ourselves to make choices not out of fear, but love.

Every time you choose natural fibres over synthetic it is a statement of love, and every time you choose handmade over machine, it is sharing that love. Choosing love & joy daily is the glue that holds Cloth Atelier true to our core beliefs.
